The refrigerant rule, in plain English
Refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners, and dehumidifiers all contain refrigerant. Under federal EPA rules, that refrigerant has to be recovered by a certified technician before the unit can be scrapped — you can’t legally just crush it, and a landfill won’t take it.
That’s why an honest fridge quote is a little higher than an honest washer quote. Anyone offering to take your refrigerator for the same price as a dryer is either eating the fee or dumping it somewhere it shouldn’t go. We tell you the number up front and it doesn’t move once we’re on your driveway.
Disconnects we’ll do — and the one we won’t
We handle standard disconnects as part of the job: unplugging, pulling a water line off a dishwasher or ice maker, draining a water heater, and unhooking washer hoses. None of that is an add-on charge.
The one we don’t touch is a live gas line. If your dryer, stove, or water heater is gas-connected and there’s no shutoff valve we can safely close, we’ll ask you to have it capped by a plumber first. That’s not us being difficult — a gas leak in your house is not a risk worth $30 of convenience.
If it still works, say so
Working appliances have real second-life value. We pull serviceable washers, dryers, fridges and stoves out for donation or resale rather than scrapping them, and non-working units get stripped for scrap metal instead of going into a landfill cell.
This doesn’t change your price either direction. It just means the thing doesn’t get buried when someone else could have used it.
